Sometimes the sun is not shining on your solar panels. Every night is an example and cloudy windy rainy days is another.
The key for us was to select the best Windgen available for marin use that would not disturb us or neighbouring boats. They needed to be safe, and handle high winds without us climbing up and securing them.
We choose Silentwind Pro 420W and have installed two of them on the back of the boat.
They are configurable via Bluetooth app and lock them selves if wind are to high. No dump resistors creating heat. Smart and modern windpower. On average they give roughly 10% of our energy needs.

A successful energy solution with multiple energy input sources(Solar, Wind, Alternators, Genset, Grid) needs a central control system.
Victron is the leader in the field and therefore the brain controlling the 12V charging, discharging and 230V Inverters on the boat is a Victron GX.
As safety is paramount to us, all consumers and charging devices are controlled by BatteryProtect devices and a separate Battery Management system is also installed.

The boat has 1800Ah of Lithium LiFePO4 battery capacity. Roughly 23kWh. Probably one of the largest you will find in a Lagoon 42. This means we can run washing machines, induction hobs, grill, dive compressor, vacuum cleaner, coffee machine, water heaters... without starting any engines or genset.
Battery is connected via Victron Lynx devices to the inverters with 4x95mm2 of cable.
The battery bank is controlled by a REC BMS in combination with the Victron system. They are connected via CAN bus.

Yes boat has a genset, a 4kVa Allpa unit, the same as a Paguro.
We normally just start it for maintenance but if needed it can charge the battery via the inverters with 240A plus 2x40A for starter batteries. If you want to fill multiple dive tanks or run the AC for extended time.

Doing dishes without hot water is a battle, therefore we installed a separate 1500W water heater directly under the galley sink. No more waiting for hot water to arrive at tap, it is instant and we run it on solar power.
And we did the same installation in the master bathroom, instant hot water in shower and at bathroom sink.

From the left under it you have the basic controls of the Victron Multiplus inverters.

Inverters are 2 parallel connected Multiplus 12/3000/120. Each unit can deliver 3000Watts 12V - 230V 50Hz with a 50A pass trough. They can as a pair deliver up to 12 000 Watt in start power and continuously 6 000VA or 5 800 Watt
They can also charge battery with 240A(120A each) when genset or grid connection is available.
